New Britain, CT - American Savings Foundation (ASF) marked its 30th anniversary with a special community event celebrating its legacy of giving and commitment to the people and nonprofits it serves. Held at the Torp Theatre at Central Connecticut State University, the milestone event featured a keynote address by five-time TEDx Talk speaker Alex Sheen, founder of the national nonprofit because I said I would.
Founded in 1996 as a permanent charitable endowment, American Savings Foundation was created to honor a promise made by American Savings Bank to invest in children, youth, families, and the overall strength of the communities it served for more than 150 years. Over the past three decades, the Foundation has fulfilled that promise by distributing more than $80 million in grants and scholarships supporting education, human services, and the arts throughout Central Connecticut.
“The words a lasting commitment were chosen intentionally by our founding board,” said Maria Falvo, President and CEO of American Savings Foundation. “They are not just a tagline; they describe who we are and what we do. For 30 years, the Foundation has invested in people and organizations that strengthen our communities, and we remain committed to doing so for generations to come.”
The anniversary program highlighted American Savings Foundation’s enduring commitment to strengthening communities through strategic investments in education, human services, and youth development. Alex Sheen’s keynote offered engaging, often humorous stories about the importance of keeping promises, resonating with nonprofits, students, and community members navigating today’s challenges. Earlier in the day, Sheen also met with local middle school students, reinforcing ASF’s long-standing support of after-school and youth-focused programs that help young people succeed in and beyond the classroom.
Throughout economic downturns, public health crises, and natural disasters, American Savings Foundation has remained a steady partner to the nonprofits and students it supports. The 30th anniversary celebration honored not only the Foundation’s history, but also the collective resilience of the communities it proudly serves.
