A Lasting Commitment

This is not just a slogan. It is a value that is central to the work of American Savings Foundation.

In 2019, we continued to build on this commitment with the launch of our new Community Grants Program.  Responding to feedback from grantseekers, the Community Grants program is designed to better respond to a wide range of local needs throughout the 64 towns served by the American Savings Foundation.

This year, we received nearly 125 applications and awarded 56 Community Grants to nonprofits in the towns we serve.  Community Grants of up to $5,000 each support a wide variety ofCommunity Grants Button.jpg programs that invest in the strength of our communities. Grants awarded in 2019 funded early childhood education, job skills training, and transportation for seniors; as well as a wide range of community arts organizations and programs meeting basic needs.  Visit our websitefor a complete list of this year’s Community Grants.

Also this year, we hosted our first-ever networking event for alumni of the Robert T. Kenney Scholarship Program at the American Savings Foundation.  Nearly 50 past Scholars, including members of our very first class and some of our most recent graduates joined us.  A panel of pastScholarships Button.jpg Scholars shared their personal stories about serving as volunteers and leaders in their communities.  We will continue to build opportunities to connect with past and current Scholars, because we believe our investment in their future will continue to make an impact long after they earn their college degree.

We are also pleased to share that our Board of Directors recently announced the promotion of two key members of our staff.  Cierra Stancil has been named Program Officer for Grants, and Heather Hokunson is now Program Officer for Scholarships.  Read the full press release here

American Savings Foundation’s commitment continues into the coming year, when we expect to award $3.1 million in grants and scholarships in the communities we serve.  The online applications for Community Grants and for the Robert T. Kenney Scholarship Program are now open.  We are also accepting proposals for Program Grants and letters of intent for Capital requests.  For more information about all our grantmaking programs visit www.asfdn.org

Over the past 23 years, American Savings Foundation has contributed more than $60 million in grants and scholarships across the 64 Connecticut towns we serve.  We will continue to honor this commitment for generations to come.

That is our lasting commitment.
