On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff of the American Savings Foundation, we hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and well. We know that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused tremendous disruption for our nonprofit partners, our Robert T. Kenney Scholars, and everyone in the communities we serve. We are working closely with our Board to implement strategies to be flexible and thoughtful as the situation evolves.
Local nonprofits play a vital role serving the community, especially in difficult times. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be in contact with our current grantees to determine the best ways to support their mission. This includes the large number of after school programs that we fund. We will work with these agencies to ensure that critical services continue and after school programs are available for youth in the upcoming school year.
For grantseekers, we believe the best way we can provide funding for immediate support is by working in partnership with existing emergency response funds that are designed to meet the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. We will continue to collaborate with our fellow funders to monitor and respond to emerging needs. We will continue to accept letters of intent for one-time capital needs that are essential to an organization's operations. However, at this time, we are not accepting requests for large capital campaigns.
For our scholars, we understand that they are facing a challenging semester and that it would be very difficult to complete an online renewal application at this time.
Therefore, we will change our renewal process to make it more streamlined for our scholars. We will be checking in with all the current Robert T. Kenney Scholars and will update them on these changes.
The deadline for new scholarship applications is March 31. Any student who submits the online application by that date will have until April 15 to submit any remaining attachments. These documents can be submitted electronically. Please see our website for more information. Our scholarship committee will be reviewing applications and meeting remotely. We look forward to welcoming a new class of Robert T. Kenney Scholars for the 2020-2021 academic year.
In support of efforts to protect public health through social distancing, our staff is continuing to work remotely. We remain fully operational and will stay true to our Legacy and our Mission to invest in the people and organizations that make our community strong, now and into the future.
That is our Lasting Commitment.
