Scholarship Program Assistant

About American Savings Foundation:

The American Savings Foundation is an independent charitable foundation dedicated to strengthening the community by supporting education, human services, and the arts, with a special emphasis on the needs of children, youth and families, through grants to community organizations and college scholarships.

Position Overview:  

The Scholarship Program Assistant, under direction of the Senior Program Officer, will support the administration of the ASF Scholarship Program, and general Foundation operations. This role will provide critical clerical and operational support, provide excellent service to scholars and scholarship applicants, support the general operations of the Foundation, and work on special projects as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities – To include but not limited to: 

Provide operational assistance for over 350 annual ASF Scholarships, support outreach and program efforts, and support the intake of over 400 applications each year.

  • Greet and direct vendors and visitors to the foundation.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding the Foundation, scholarship program, and scholarship application process.
  • Process applications during cyclical scholarship application periods. Enter data in the online database, maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist with scholarship program outreach and applicant pool development, including preparing informational materials, and attending community outreach events.
  • Provide committee support, including redacting applications for committee review, scheduling meetings, and writing meeting minutes.
  • Follow Foundation policies and procedures including payment processing, record keeping, and record retention, regarding all aspects of scholarship management.
  • Assists in planning and supporting scholarship related events, including our annual scholarship reception, alumni event, and intern social.
  • Support Foundation operations and administration as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Successful candidate needs to have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and have a positive team-orientated attitude. They should be comfortable juggling multiple deadlines and be able to manage workflow. Ability to work independently, and within a small team is needed.

Education: Associate degree or equivalent required.

Technical Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and the capacity to adopt new online tools required.

SCHEDULE: 

This is a full-time, nonexempt position with hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 – 4:30. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required to conduct scholarship outreach, attend Foundation meetings, or attend community events.

Some scheduling flexibility may be possible under limited conditions, with prior approval and a set schedule with a minimum of 32 hours per week. The position is entirely office-based at 1 Liberty Square, New Britain, CT 06051.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $21-23 per hour. The position is eligible for health insurance and other benefits. Any offer is subject to a successful criminal and DMV background check.
