Title: PC Girls' Clubs Camp Mentor
Location: Waterbury
Dates: 6/ - 8//21, schedule is flexible
Hours: 8 - 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday with some flexibility

Job Description: 

Our Camp Mentors work directly with our Camp Team Members and Supervisors to organize, coordinate and lead various clubs and activities that engage and empower our girls, and align with our hands-on, minds-on, learning through play model. All members of our team are responsible for supervising various recreational activities for our campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and overall positive experience, while fostering a fun and engaging environment through creative programming and positive interaction. Leading by example, the ideal candidate must be comfortable working with children in both an indoor and outdoor setting, comfortable with trying new activities and learning new things, all while maintaining an environment that empowers our girls to challenge themselves. Candidates should also be comfortable to take on a leadership role coordinating a particular activity, as a support for our other team members, and as a role model for our girls.  We encourage our mentors to share activities that are of interest to them, offering their knowledge and skills as a learning option our girls.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with our camp team to assist in organizing, coordinating and leading our various clubs and activities, managing group dynamics and maintaining a safe environment for all.
  • Helping to coordinate continual activities throughout the day, keeping our girls full engaged and having fun, appreciation for all things STEAM is welcome, as is an interest in creative arts, sports, etc.
  • Set up/clean up of activities and supplies used throughout the center
  • Supervising children both in the learning setting, on field trips, and moving throughout our center
  • Maintaining professional and positive interactions with other team members, our campers, parents/guardians and planned visitors to our center
  • Participating in all required trainings, certifications, and learning sessions, as required for our camp team
  • Leading by example with respect, kindness, leadership and creativity

Career Experience:

Mentors can expect to gain real world experience, working directly with youth, coordinating, planning and leading engaging activities, in addition to developing strong teamwork, communication and problem solving skills.

Suggested College Majors: 

This experience helps shape many careers, however, because the position is working directly with youth, the ideal candidate must first enjoy working with children, which typically leans toward teaching, coaching, social work/counseling career majors.

Position Qualifications:

  • Must be comfortable working with school-age youth representing our diverse community, including but not limited to experiences, languages, cultures and abilities
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to pass required certification programs for camp
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, able to jump in to help and flexibility to adjust to changes throughout the day
  • Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in summer months
