Title: STEM Educator
Location: New Britain, Berlin, Meriden & Wallingford
Dates: 6/2 - 8/21
Hours: 35 hours / week - schedule is flexible

Job Description: 

The STEM Educator intern will assist in providing youth with STEM experiences at our various locations throughout the summer. The primary worksites will be Camp Thundermoon (Berlin), CSDNB Summer Education Experience (SEE) (New Britain). Secondary worksites will be Meriden YMCA Mountain Mist and CT STEM Academy in Wallingford.

STEM Educator interns responsiblities include:

  • Planning instruction for the STEM sessions.
  • Preparing materials for student experiences.
  • Set-up and clean-up of materials and/or stations.
  • Supervising check-in and check out of students, and exercise proper communication with parents.
  • Lead STEM investigations. This may also include team teaching and/or leading a small group STEM investigation.
  • Communicate with assistant facilitators about instruction and any student issues (instructional or behavioral).
  • Monitor transitions between sessions, keeping track of time.
  • Be attentive at all times to the students and teachers.
  • Assist in collecting data at the end of the session from the students.
  • Communicate directly with STEM Director regarding programming and participants.
  • Applicants should be knowledgeable in a wide range of STEM learning experiences that include robotics, rocketry, engineering, and science.

When not assigned to teaching duties, interns will:

  • Collect and Analyze student/parent surveys via Google Sheets
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials
  • Investigate fundraiser opportunities to support programming

Career Experience: 

The intern will gain experience educating young people in STEM.  The student intern will teach alongside an experienced educator.  Additional experience in behind-the-scenes preparation required to successfully implement programs (curriculum).

Suggested College Majors:

All education majors or aspiring teachers/educators, STEM majors, Business majors or students interested in non-profit management.

Applicant Requirements: 

Applicants with experience in childcare, student teaching, or camp counseling are encouraged to apply. Knowledge in 3D printing, coding, AI, and robotics is a plus, but not required.
