Title: Assistant Summer Youth Coordinator
Location: New Britain
Dates: 6/7 - 8/7
Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm or 9 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday
The Assistant Summer Youth Coordinator (ASYC) will work with and be supervised by the Summer Youth Coordinator (SYC) and/or Executive Director for the Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program for youth ages 14 to 22 years old. For the past 40 years youth ages have been up to 19. (Special Ed youth are up to 22) The ASYC will assist with recruitment, screening and doing intakes on the youth in conjunction with the SYC. The Executive Director and SYC will train the ASYC and provide support for them to make sure they understand the process of the intake and how the program is going to be implemented.
The ASYC will attend meetings and learn to input data into the ETO data system with the SYC. ASYC will work with the SYC to develop activities and projects for the summer youth employment and learning program. The ASYC will also have an opportunity to develop and teach an activity. The ASYC will attend the parent and youth orientation once the youth are selected for the program. The ASYC will visit worksites with the SYC, Field Site Coordinator or Executive Director.
The ASYC will have an opportunity to visit and participate in some of the other OIC programs such as the summer camp and the IMPACT program to have an understanding of the impact OICNB makes on the greater New Britain Community. The ASYC will also have an opportunity to work with the Executive Director to understand how a non-profit operates and attend a variety of meetings with the Executive Director. The ASYC will also have an opportunity to learn about youth development for youth ages 14 to 19 years old as well as youth entering sixth grade who are in the summer camp.
This experience will help any young adult look at how a non-profit operates from the inside and out. It's great for individuals interested in social work, human services, business, advocacy, youth development, politics and teaching.
Being involved with OICNB with give youth in sociology, psychology, business, education, physical fitness, human relations/services, and administration majors experience in their discipline.
Having a car is a plus (clean driving record) Spanish speaking is a plus but not a requirement. Must like working with youth ages 14-18. Sometimes youth have to dress casual for a meeting they attend with the Executive Director.
