Job Description: 

Brooker Memorial is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to support the Administrative Team across fundraising, marketing, community outreach, and program operations. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit administration, donor engagement, data management, communications, and program support at a nonprofit serving children and families. Key responsibilities include: 

Fundraising & Development

  • Enter and manage donor gifts in CRM database, Bloomerang.
  • Assist with donor data management and segmentation to support automated email communications.
  • Support preparation of the Annual Report, including:
  • Aligning donor profile fields with style guidelines.
  • Collecting program statistics and compiling Google review comments.
  • Gathering testimonials from parents and participants across Child Care, Dental, Relatives as Parents (RAPP), and Pathway to Success programs.
  • Writing and administering surveys for various programs and summarizing results from recent surveys.
  • Assist with management of the Northwest Corner Gives crowdfunding campaign in July, including:
  • Developing a campaign calendar and marketing plan.
  • Creating graphics (Canva) for a two-week campaign representing all four program areas.
  • Developing short-form video content (Reels) using images and videos.
  • Providing weekly income and performance reports.
  • Generating donor acknowledgements and thank-you communications.

Marketing and Communications

  • Clean and maintain email contact lists in Constant Contact, including removal of repeatedly bounced  emails.
  • Verify consistency between email records in Bloomerang and Constant Contact.
  • Assist with social media planning and content creation, including:
  • Developing a weekly social media content plan.
  • Posting a minimum of three times per week across platforms, highlighting Brooker Memorial’s various programs.
  • Using Canva to create social media graphics.
  • Writing press releases and for activities and events.
  • Assisting with monthly e-newsletter by writing articles and taking photographs.
  • Attend professional development webinars on best practices for social media development.

Community Outreach

  • Network at a variety of community organizations, including Rotary Club of Torrington & Winsted Areas, Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce, Litchfield Area Business Association, Community Health, Alliance, and Early Childhood Community Advisory Council, etc.
  • Organize and submit community resources for the Relatives as Parents online database.
  • Participate in community outreach events that support the agency mission, including community events, and dental health educational programs at child care centers and summer camps.

Dental Center

  • Receive training in EagleSoft dental practice management software.
  • Run and export monthly reports, including:
  • Patient demographic data.
  • New patient parent names and email lists for monthly newsletters.
  • Assist with data quality improvements in patient records, including:
  • Correcting and matching parent emails for siblings.
  • Notating primary language spoken in the home.
  • Removing former dentists listed as preferred providers when appropriate.

Pathways to Success

  • Assist with mentoring and job shadowing program by matching teenagers that completed aptitude testing with career professionals.

Archives & Records

  • Organize, scan, and digitize historical materials, including photographs and newspaper articles, to preserve Brooker Memorial’s history.

Career Experience:

The intern will gain hands-on career experience in nonprofit administration and fundraising, donor engagement, data management, communications, and program support at a nonprofit serving children and families.

Suggested College Majors:

Interest in nonprofits is a plus for any candidate. Majors include: Communications, Marketing, Development/Fundraising, Business Administration, Management, and Public Health.

Applicant Requirements:

Current or prospective college student majoring in management, communications, marketing, public health, or a related field. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Comfort working with Microsoft Office and databases. Strong written communication skills; experience with social media or graphic design tools (Canva) is a plus. Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism. Interest in nonprofit work, community services, and mission-driven organizations.
