CCARC’s day, employment, and transition programs emphasize real-world experiences that prepare individuals for successful adult lives. This includes opportunities for skill development, community engagement, volunteering, and internships that support career exploration and pathways to meaningful employment. Through strong partnerships with local businesses and organizations, individuals gain hands-on experience that builds confidence, independence, and long-term success in the workforce.
Residential and supported housing options are designed to provide individuals with the level of support they need while empowering them to live as independently as possible. Whether in group settings or more independent living arrangements, CCARC prioritizes choice, dignity, and personal growth, ensuring each person has the opportunity to live in a community they call home.
In 2001, American Savings Foundation awarded one of its first-ever Capital Grants to CCARC toward the construction of their new headquarters in New Britain. This state-of-the-art, fully accessible facility features spaces dedicated to teaching life skills and offering a range of opportunities for people with disabilities. 25 years later, the building continues to be the heart of CCARC’s programs and services.
The Foundation again supported CCARC in 2023 with a capital grant as they expanded their services into an additional space in Berlin. This new location allowed CCARC to increase its capacity and continue building programs that meet rising community needs. The Foundation’s investment reflected its ongoing commitment to supporting CCARC’s growth and helping the organization strengthen its ability to serve more individuals across the region.
As it approaches its 75th year, CCARC continues to demonstrate the steady momentum and community presence that have defined its work for generations. Even as the field evolves, CCARC remains centered on a forward‑looking identity shaped by the enduring values of community, compassion, ability, respect, and commitment; principles that continue to guide how they support individuals and families every day.
At the heart of CCARC’s work is a commitment to empowering people with IDD through personalized supports and meaningful opportunities. The organization’s evolving approach reflects its role as a community-driven leader, continuously expanding services and partnerships to meet the changing needs of those it serves. CCARC is dedicated to ensuring that each individual has the opportunity to live their most independent and fulfilling life.
This work is grounded in core values—community, compassion, ability, respect, and commitment—which guide every aspect of CCARC’s programs and relationships. By balancing a strong foundation of values with forward-thinking innovation, CCARC continues to strengthen inclusive communities and create pathways for individuals and families to thrive.
