Title: Assistant Coordinator for Summer Enrichment Program

Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (1 hour for lunch) Mondays-Fridays

Job Description:

The Assistant Coordinator will work with and be supervised by the Project Coordinator and/or Executive Director for the Summer Enrichment Program for youth ages 10 to 11 years old and youth ages 13 to 14 years old.  The Assistant Coordinator will assist with the summer enrichment intake process for the youth’s enrollment into the summer enrichment program in conjunction with the Project Coordinator.  The Assistant Coordinator will provide assistance to the Project Coordinator with input of participants into the A+ Cayen System data based with daily attendance and activities.  The Project Coordinator will provide the Assistant Coordinator with training on the system.

The Assistant Coordinator will work with the Project Coordinator to develop activities and projects for the summer enrichment program. The Assistant Coordinator will assist with the orientation of the summer youth and their parents once they have been selected for the program. The Assistant Coordinator will provide some activities for youth in the summer enrichment program for either the Rising 5th graders going into 6th grade or the Rising Eighth Graders going into 9th grade.  The Assistant Coordinator will spend some time with Executive Director to understand the operations of a non-profit and as well youth development for youth ages 10 to 11 and 13 to 14 years old.  The Assistant Coordinator will also have an opportunity to develop a project for the parents and/or youth.

Career Experience:

This internship will expose an individual to effective ways in implementing a summer enrichment programs for middles school youth making a transition to another grade. It is great exposure for skills needed in counseling, teaching, administration, human services and social service work.   This opportunity will enhance leadership and instructional skills needed to work with urban youth.  The individual will have a great opportunity to develop and depend on their own creativity, ideas and suggestions. The individual will also learn the data based  A+ Cayen System.

Suggested College Major:

An individual interested in education, human and social services, social work, counseling and administration and likes inputting data and analyzing the results at the end of their nine weeks with OIC.  An individual who likes middle school youth and possesses great empathy and compassion for today’s youth.
