Title: Social Media and Events Assistant
Location: New Britain
Dates: Flexible, starting ASAP and run for 9 weeks. Must be available for the August 6 scholarship reception from 5–8 pm.
Hours: Flexible within the Foundation’s operating hours from 8:00 – 4:30 pm.
The Summer Intern to assist in projects related to social media content creation, graphic design, and advertising strategies. The intern will also work on all aspects of preparing for a large event including preparing invitations, coordinating logistics, helping with the program content, and helping with the evening of the event.
Through the course of the summer, the intern will work on both our Facebook and LinkedIn pages to promote our professional network with our ASF scholars and alumni. This includes connecting with other 2024 Summer Interns to learn about their experiences and develop short social media posts highlighting their internships. The Intern will also develop and execute a robust social media campaign that promotes the ASF Scholar Reception on August 6.
The intern will conduct a peer scholarship scan. This will include researching, tracking, and documenting all scholarship programs which serve students within our 64-town service area.
Over the course of the internship, the intern will also promote grant opportunities. This may include conducting outreach to key informants and nonprofit organizations during the open application period, creating and sharing content for social media platforms and other media platforms identified.
The intern will report to our operations manager and will work closely with the President & CEO, as well as with other Foundation staff. The intern may have the opportunity to help with other Foundation activities as assigned. The intern will NOT be assigned any work on the renewal scholarship application process or any current scholar information. Applying for, receiving, or declining this internship will have no impact on an applicant’s renewal application.
The Intern will gain professional knowledge and competencies in a multitude of business skills including Social Media, Communications, Marketing, Alumni Relations, and also gain an introduction to the field of philanthropy.
Additionally, soft skills learned through interactions with the community, scholars, and nonprofit agencies will assist the Intern with interview skills, instilling confidence and professional demeanor.
Students interested in or currently majoring in business, marketing, social work, journalism, human resources, information technology, or any career field with an interest in learning more about social media and philanthropy.
This individual should possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills with an ability to multi-task. Applicants should also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) and desire to learn new technologies. This individual should be willing to work collaboratively with others and feel comfortable working independently while demonstrating discretionary effort.
The Intern should be flexible in taking on tasks, able to function in a fast-paced, diverse environment, committed to helping others, and a team player. The American Savings Foundation serves scholars and community members of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and communities.
