Job Description:

American Savings Foundation is looking for a summer intern to join us to work on our social media and help with the annual scholarship reception on August 8. The intern will work on all aspects of preparing for a large event including preparing invitations, coordinating logistics, helping with the program content, and helping the evening of the event.

The theme of this year’s reception will be communications careers and creating professional networks. Through the course of the summer, the intern will work on both our Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to promote our professional network with our scholars and alumni. The Intern will also develop a campaign of social media posts to be sent out over time.

In addition to the scholarship reception, the intern will help organize logistics for other events and meetings. This may include a round-table discussion with participants in summer youth employment programs (typically 14-18 years old). The Intern will also help develop and plan an alumni event for early fall 2023. Planning and preparation will include researching and reaching out to past scholars and inviting them to join our social media platforms. In addition, the Intern will also reach out to other 2023 Summer Interns to learn about their experiences and develop short social media posts highlighting their internships.

Over the course of the internship, the intern will also develop and conduct outreach for the Foundation’s Community Grants open application period. This will include researching and developing contacts lists and messages for key informants and nonprofit agencies in the 64 towns we serve.

The intern will report to our operations manager and will work closely with the President & CEO, as well as with other Foundation staff. The intern may have the opportunity to help with other Foundation activities as assigned. The intern will NOT be assigned any work on the renewal scholarship application process or any current scholar information. Applying for, receiving, or declining this internship will have no impact on an applicant’s renewal application.

Career Experience:

The Intern will gain professional knowledge and competencies in a multitude of business skills including Social Media, Communications, Marketing, Alumni Relations, and also gain an introduction to the field of philanthropy.

Additionally, soft skills learned through interactions with the community, scholars, and nonprofit agencies will assist the Intern with interview skills, instilling confidence and professional demeanor.

Suggested College Major:

Student's interested in or currently majoring in business, marketing, social work, journalism, human resources, information technology, or any career field with an interest in learning more about social media and philanthropy.

Applicant Requirements:

This individual should possess strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills with an ability to multi-task. Applicants should also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) and desire to learn new technologies. This individual should be willing to work collaboratively with others and feel comfortable working independently while demonstrating discretionary effort.

The Intern should be flexible in taking on tasks, able to function in a fast-paced, diverse environment, committed to helping others, and a team player. The American Savings Foundation serves scholars and community members of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and communities.
