The Robert T. Kenney Scholarship

New Britain and Waterbury Residents ONLY who are applying to the American Savings Foundation Scholars program are welcome to also apply for the Robert T. Kenney Scholarship. This special scholarship will recognize two graduating seniors, one from the city of New Britain and one from the city of Waterbury, who have demonstrated an extraordinary level of community service. Recipients will have made a substantial impact in their communities through volunteerism that goes far beyond the ordinary requirements for graduation.

This is a one-time award of up to $5,000 (depending on need). The recipient will be eligible to apply for the American Savings Foundation scholarship for up to three additional academic years (generally $500-$3,000 per year).

In addition to submitting the general application for the American Savings Foundation Scholars program, applicants must also submit by mail:

  1. One letter of nomination from a representative of a community organization for which the student has volunteered. This is in addition to the required letters of recommendation.
  2. A complete listing of the student's volunteer activities including hours served over the past three years, as well as information about any unique volunteer accomplishments.

The foundation's selection committee may consult with school officials and representatives from the nominating organizations. Finalists may be asked to interview with members of the selection committee.
